Mrs. Swindell had been in poor health for more than a year and a half and had a section of bone removed from her right knee for test purposes, and later, in July 1947, had suffered the amputation of her right leg at the thigh, in the Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. Her health continued to fail, however, and she finally passed away. Along with her husband and family, she was a former resident of West Salisbury, and had moved to Elizabeth about four and a half years ago. She was born in Salisbury on February 26, 1906, daughter of Harriet (Newman) and William Beynon. In addition to her husband, Lewis F. Swindell, she is survived by her father, William Beynon of Salisbury; six children: John R., Betty Jane, James Robert, Patricia May, Rose Marie and Janet Lee Swindell; by one brother, John Beynon of Scranton, Pa., and by one sister, Mabel, wife of S. C. Showalter of West Salisbury. Funeral services were conducted at the Thomas Funeral Parlors at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11th, with the Rev. Floyd H. Gotjen officiating. The bier was graced with a great mass of flowers, and a large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral, most of them from out of town. Pall bearers were all former neighbors in West Salisbury; Grant Bowman, Percy Harris, Clarence Fuller, Robert Jones Sr., Kenneth Trent and Earl Trent. Interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in charge of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas. Meyersdale Republican, January 15, 1948
