Szewczyk (Sheftic), 70, of Ohio Street, Boswell, pronounced dead on May 6, 1998, at home. Born April 3, 1928, in Johnstown, son of Charles W. and Mary R. (Bobek) Szewczyk. Preceded in death by parents, uncle Edward Szewczyk and aunt Ann Kolodisa. Survived by sister Mary Lee, Boswell; aunts and uncles: Frances Shubik, Thadeus, Walter, Mary, Kathryn, and John Sheftic; special cousins Helen Cheek, Mary Jane and Geno Cavallo and Jo Kubas, and very dear friends Sue, Chuck, Kathy, and Brandy Ringer. Graduate of the former Boswell High School Class of 1945 and magna cum laude graduate of Notre Dame University Class of 1949. Army veteran of the Korean War. Former managing partner of County Amusement; owner-operator of the former Sheftic Amusement Company and the Downtowner Motor Hotel, Johnstown, for many years, and active partner in the former Richland and Westmont Drive-In Theaters, Act I and II, Westwood Plaza and Richland Mall Theaters. Former president and current chairman of Peoples Bank, Jennerstown, and director of First Commonwealth Financial Corp., past Boswell Borough Council president, past president and current treasurer of the Somerset County Development Council, member of All Saints Catholic Parish where he was a member of the choir and chairman of the church finance council, Windber Council 4067, Knights of Columbus, Somerset Post 554, VFW; Somerset Aerie 1801, Fraternal Order of Eagles; Boswell Post 461, American Legion; and the Boswell Water Authority. A lifetime member of the Boswell Area Historical Society and a Pittsburgh Steeler season ticket-holder for 45 years. Sustaining member of Johnstown Symphony. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Church, Boswell, the Rev. Martin Breski, O.F.M., Conv., celebrant. Interment, St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Boswell. Memorials to the donor's favorite charity would be appreciated. Daily American, May 8, 1998 [S3534]
