Tatum, 81, Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., passed away Oct. 25, 2006. Beloved husband of 62 years of the late Norma Jean "Cookie" Tatum and longtime resident of Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Champion. Father of James R. "Goose" (Linda) Tatum, Blairsville, Ga.; Gary L. (Linda) Tatum, Boca Raton, Fla.; and Kathy (Bob) Bennett, Lauderdale By The Sea, Fla. Grandfather of Seth and Lori Tatum. Brother of Jewel (Donald) Monstrola with numerous nieces and nephews. A World War II U.S. Navy veteran of the destroyer escort USS Chase, he saw action on both the European and Pacific theaters and was awarded a Purple Heart for his actions during a kamikaze attack that scuttled his ship off Okinawa. An outstanding golfer, he was especially proud of his four holes in one, one coming on a par four. The 62 years he spent with his wife, Cookie, were dedicated to family and creating a loving home to all. Their years at Seven Springs Mountain Resort brought friendships and lasting memories that carried with them through their lives. Virg's proudest accomplishments were his two grandchildren, Seth and Lori, who were the lights of his life. The last 10 months with-out Cookie proved to be the most trying of his life, but they are together again in heaven. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today in the Kalis-McIntee Funeral & Cremation Center, 2505 N. Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors, Fla. Services at Seven Springs Golf Course will be scheduled at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to www.kalismcin-tee.com. Daily American, October 29, 2006
