"Whitey" Taylor, 66, of Somerset, died March 8, 1996, at Lee Hospital, Johnstown. Born June 19, 1929, in Philadelphia. Son of the late Robert and Caroline (Gehringer) Taylor. Survived by his wife of 36 years, the former Patricia Kemp; brothers, Roland Taylor of Willow Grove, Pa. and Jay Taylor of Marlton, N.J.; a sister Phyllis McFarlane of Philadelphia; also these nieces and nephews: Jeff Bracseker, Friedens; Karen Inscho, Johnstown; Roland, Caroline, Michael, George, Ernest, Jeff, Don, Jaime and Ryan Taylor; Jerry, Keith, Kevin, Glenn and Brian McFarlane; and Lone Bidus. Retired GTE supervisor with 37 years service. Veteran of the U.S. Army. Member of Meyersdale Elks Lodge, American Legion of Somerset, Loyal Order of Moose in Meyersdale, Somerset Lodge No. 358 F&AM, Jaffa Temple of Altoona, the Altoona Consistory, Somerset County Shrine Club, Maple Leaf Rod & Gun Club of Meyersdale, the Travelers Protective Association, the Telephone Pioneers Association, Somerset Volunteer Fire Department, the Old Timers Baseball Association, Laurel Ridge Sportmen's Association, the U.S. Golf Association, Humane Society of Somerset County, and FOE of Somerset. An avid golfer and sportsman. Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home, Somerset, where funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Robert Hoover officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be given to the Somerset Volunteer Fire Department, Somerset County Humane Society, and Trinity Lutheran Church.
