Charles Tayman, 80, United States Army retired, died last Friday at his home in Healdsburg, California, after an illness of several months. His body was shipped east for interment at Lavansville, his native town. Col. Tayman was a nephew of the late George Tayman, builder and proprietor of the Somerset House, for many years Somerset's largest and most popular hotel. He obtained an appointment as a cadet in West Point Military Academy in the latter 70's, when about 16 years of age. He was graduated in due time and remained in the U.S. Army until he reached the retirement age. He served with distinction in the Spanish-American War, the World War of 1917-18 and in many other capacities. Meyersdale Republican, January 22, 1942
