TAYMAN Tayman Family Fatally Injured in Auto Mishap Robert C. Tayman, 55, of Jersey Shore, Pa., formerly of Meyersdale, was fatally injured and his twelve-year-old daughter, Donalou, was instantly killed in an automobile accident at Julian, near Bellefonte, on August 23. His wife, Lillian (Decker) Tayman, was badly injured and is in serious condition at the Bellefonte Hospital. Mr. Tayman died in the hospital several hours after the accident. The family was returning home from a vacation spent in the Meyersdale community attending the Fair and visiting relatives and friends. According to police accounts it is believed that Mr. Tayman must have fallen asleep at the wheel. Mrs. Tayman was asleep in the back seat when the accident occurred. The car ran into a culvert. Robert Tayman was the son of the late Henry Tayman and Mrs. Delilah Tayman and was born in Meyersdale. As a boy he attended school in Wittenburg, Larimer Township, where his parents then resided. Living near the railroad "Bob" learned to love the sound of trains, and at the age of 17 he began work for the B. & O. R.R. Co., continuing with this work for nine years. Then his parents moved to Akron and Bob found employment with the Goodrich Rubber Co. for a few years. But the desire to work at railroading took Bob back to Pennsylvania, this time to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad where he remained until two years ago when he took the position of master mechanic for the Central Cable Co. He lived for a time in Tiffin, Ohio. In June 1939 he was transferred to Jersey Shore, Pa. He is survived by his wife, his aged mother, four brothers and three sisters; namely, Charles, Cassville, Wis., Harvey, Calery, Pa., Steward and Homer, Akron, O.; Mrs. Irvin Fair, Mrs. Daisy Humphrey, Akron, O., and George Romier, Talmadge. As soon as word of the accident was received by members of the family in Akron, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Fair, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Tayman, Harvey Tayman and Gale Humphry hurried to the scene of the accident near Bellefonte to administer comfort to the injured and grief-stricken wife and to have the bodies of their brother and his little girl prepared for burial and shipped to Tiffin, Ohio, where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Meyers Funeral Home, Rev. Cantner officiating. Interment was made in Bloomdale Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, August 29, 1940
