  Arlene Elizabeth Thomas, 72, of Marge Lane, Somerset, died March 24, 1997,
  at Somerset Hospital.  Born April 27, 1924, in Milford Township. Daughter of
  the late Frank and Minnie (Younkld) Barkman.  Preceded in death by brother,
  Orlo, and granddaughter, Jennifer Thomas.  Survived by husband of 50 years,
  Paul Calvin Thomas; a daughter, Mrs. Jay (Doris) Snyder of Pittsburgh; son,
  Roger Thomas, married to the former Pamela Moyer, Winchester, Va., and four
  grandchildren: Jamie and Ryan Snyder, Laura and Katie Thomas.  Sister of
  Alverda Whipkey and Hazel Miller, both of Somerset.  A sister-in-law,
  Kathryn Barkman of Siemon Lakeview Manor Estate.  Member of Messiah Lutheran
  Church where she served as pianist for many years.  Former member of
  Milford Grange.  Retired employee of Gilmour Manufacturing Co., Somerset.
  Friends received from 7 to 9 Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday
  at the Wibur D. Miller Funeral Home, Somerset.  Funeral service at Messiah
  Lutheran Church where friends may call one hour prior to service at 2 p.m.
  Thursday, Pastor John Palko officiating.  Interment, Somerset County
  Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to the
  memorial fund at Messiah Lutheran Church.
