Stern Thomas, 73, of Fronheiser St., Johnstown, died Dec. 17, 1981, at Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. Born Aug. 10, 1908, in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, daughter of Aaron and Fannie (Eash) Miller. Preceded in death by parents; first husband, Paul Stern, who died April 3, 1963; two sisters and three brothers. Survived by husband, Hobart Thomas; and these children: Violet Shaffer, Martha Snyder, Mrs. Melvin (Dorcas) Arnold, all of Somerset; Mrs. Dwight (Twila) Shaffer, Quecreek; Mrs. Dale (Ruth) Ferry, Somerset RD 3; Robert, married to Carol Berkey, Constantia, N.Y.; and Richard, married to Elena, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Donald (Anna) Gindlesperger, Hollsopple RD 3; step-children: John, married to Mabel Vanscoye, Orlando, Fla.; David, married to Kay Markley, Frederick, Md.; Robert, married to Violet Varner, South Fork RD 1; 28 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Sister of: Dora Spory and Harry Miller, both of Hollsopple RD 2; Millie Folckemer, of Johnstown. Member of Maple Springs Church of the Brethren, Senior Citizens of Hollsopple, Maple Springs, Tire Hill and Johnstown, Sewing Circle and Loyal Bible Class of the church. Family friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at George E. Mason Funeral Home, Davidsville. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Maple Springs Church of the Brethren where remains will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until service time, the Rev. Carroll S. Ringgold and the Rev.
