Thomas, 70, of Johnstown RD 7, died Jan. 19, 1979, at Waterman Memorial Hospital, Eustis, Fla. Born Aug. 7, 1908, in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, the son of Herman and Annie (Thomas) Thomas. Preceded in death by parents; infant daughter, Betty; and an infant son. Survived by widow, the former Irene O. Shaffer; daughter, Shirley, widow of Robert R. Verna; and son Jack, married to the former Donna Hershberger, both of Hollsopple RD 2; four grandchildren: Rickey and Bryan Thomas and Beth and Scott Verna; also brother, Carl F. Thomas of Hollsopple RD 2. He was a member of Benscreek Lutheran Church, served many terms on church council; retired employee of Penn Machine Company, Johnstown; member of barber shop chorus and the Gideon chorus, both in Johnstown; and Jenner community sportsman. Celebrated 50th wedding anniversary, October, 1978. Friends received from 2-9 p.m. Monday at the Joseph H. Hoffman Funeral Home, 227 Allegheny St., Boswell.
