(Dat) Thomas, 75, of Second Avenue, Hyndman, died Monday, May 5, 1986 at the hospice unit of Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born June 7, 1910 in Hyndman, he was a son of the late James N. Thomas and Ethel (Rice) Thomas. He retired in 1976 after 24 years as a custodian in the Hyndman school system. Before that he worked at the Amcelle plant of the Celanese Corporation near Cumberland, Md., for 17 years. He was a member of the governing board of the Hyndman Cemetery Association and was an avid hunter. Surviving are his widow, the former Elizabeth M. Shaffer; one son, Neil D. Thomas, Rhinebeck, N.Y.; two daughters, Mrs. E. Ann Evans and Mrs. Kay A. Diehl, both of Hyndman; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Thomas, Hyndman; Allan Thomas, Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Evans, Hyndman RD; Mrs. Marian Kerns, Hyndman. Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. James H. Simpson.
