Allegheny St., Boswell, went to be with his Lord Nov. 10, 1998, at Somerset Hospital. Born Nov. 25, 1913, in Reading Mines, son of Zachary P. and Ada (Ringler) Thomas. Preceded in death by parents; wife, A. Louise Homer, on March 4, 1994; grandson, Wayne Espy Thomas; brothers: Silas and Oren; sisters: Beulah McGuire, May Henry, Ethel Wilson, Vivian McNeily and Evelyn Penner. Survived by sons: Robert M., married to the former Linda Piper, Boswell RD; and William G., married to the former Georgia "Sue" Zimmerman, Jennerstown; five grandchildren: Robert Carl, Christopher Paul, Kristine Diane, and William Espy Thomas and Jennie Rebecca Jamieson; brother, Grant Ernest, El Paso, Texas; sisters: Dora Zayaz, Denver, Colorado; and Lucille Kalmanir, Boswell; sister-in-law, Betty Thomas, Berlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boswell, where he served as council member, Sunday school superintendent, usher and Scout master. Also member of Somerset Lodge 358 F. and AM., Altoona Valley Consistory and Jaffa Mosque Shrine. Former member of I.O.O.F. and Boswell fire police. During his lifetime, Espy worked as a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel Corp., Johnstown, an agent for Baltimore Life, a laborer for New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Somerset, a security officer for former Coleman Co., Somerset, and assisted his son, Bob, at former Boswell News and Variety. He was also a past vice president of the National Association of Postmasters, Boswell postmaster for 25 years and served as Boswell, borough auditor and tax collector. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where service will he held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Michael A. Dunlap officiating. Masonic funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment, Jenner Crossroads Cemetery.
