  Goldie M. Thomas, 85, Meyersdale, formerly of Garrett RD 1, died July 27,
  1998 at Meyersdale Manor.  Born July 31, 1912, in Somerset, daughter of John
  and Lizzie (Meyers) Shaffer.  Preceded in death by parents; husband, Charles
  A. Sr.; and brothers, Clark and Hubert Shaffer.  Survived by these sons,
  Charles A. Jr., married to the former Linda Miller of Garrett; and William
  J., married to the former Barbara Lynch of Raleigh, N.C.; a foster son,
  David Lyons of Blairsville; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a
  sister, Eva Lape, Somerset.  Member of Beachdale Church of the Brethren
  where she had served as a Sunday School teacher, primary superintendent and
  a deaconess for many years.  Former 4-H leader for over 25 years.  Family will
  receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home,
  Berlin.  Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Beachdale
  Church of the Brethren.  Rev. Larry Black officiating.  Interment, Beachdale
  Cemetery.
