Born July 22, 1936, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Forrest and Amelia (Skidmore) Thomas. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mahlon and Ralph. He is survived by three children, Amelia Jane, Jonesborough, Tenn.; John Jr., and wife, Lisa, Wallisville, Texas; Lewis and wife, Vicky, Jonesborough; two brothers, William and wife, Rose, Baltimore; Richard and wife, Grace, Bel Air, Md.; three sisters, Emogene Christner, Salisbury; Helen Housel and husband, George, Meyersdale; Pauline Harmic and husband, Randall, Meyersdale. John leaves behind his dear companion, Neva; and five grandchildren, J.C., Daniel and Rosie Thomas; Noah and Rebeka Thomas. John served 12 years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps with tours of duty to Korea, Vietnam and Germany. He was quite the entertainer with his singing and guitar playing. John's favorite part of the day was his walk to the river with his dogs and his love of nature. We shall miss him. Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Home Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A service will be conducted in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Thomas Twigg officiating. Interment will be in Salisbury Cemetery.
