Thomas, 83, of Meyersdale, died July 17, 1999 in Meyersdale Medical Center. He was born Aug. 1, 1915, in Elk Lick Township, a son of the late Grant and Orpha (Rubright) Thomas. He was preceded in death by sisters: Lucille Younkin and Irene Baer and brothers: Paul and Ray Thomas. He is survived by his wife Pauline M. (Anderson), who celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary March 19, 1999, and these children: JoAnn, wife of Dale Meese Sr.; Marla, wife of Ira Lichty, both of Salisbury; Paul of Murrysville, Pa. and Kenneth Jr. of Meyersdale. Also survived by nine grandchildren: Dale Meese Jr., Dawn, Joy, Lisa, Chris, Brian, Grant, David and Anna Thomas; and three great-grandchildren: Erin and Shad Meese and Tyler Thomas. He worked at the Meyersdale Shirt Factory in 1931, the Bethlehem Steel Shipyards from 1940 to 1943, in Baltimore, Md. and the B&O Railroad on the Cumberland to Pittsburgh Division from 1943 to August 1975 when he retired as a locomotive engineer with a lifetime membership in the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was a member of the Salisbury A.L. and V.F.W. He was an avid trout fisherman and enjoyed playing country music with the guitar and mouth organ. He was a dedicated Pittsburgh Pirate baseball fan, rarely missing a Pirate broadcast. He enjoyed 24 years of retirement, traveling and maintaining his home of 52 years, including what he liked to refer to as the "nicest" flower garden in Meyersdale. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, at Leckemby Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday with the Rev. Bruce Ashlock officiating.
