Thomas, 86, Hollsopple RD 2, died April 16, 1994 at Windber Hospital. Born Feb. 15, 1908, in Thomas Mills, son of Edward E. and Polly Blough Thomas. Preceded in death by parents and a great grandson. Survived by his wife, the former Mildred Hammer and these children, Louise, wife of Harold Cullar, North Lima, Ohio, Lila Rae, wife of Robert Stettle, Morgantown, W.Va.; Elsie, wife of Herbert Fetterman, Johnstown RD 7; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; brother of Rev. Harold Thomas, Hollsopple RD 2; step sister Erma Short, Ohio; step brothers, Rev. Elvin Holsopple and Emery Holsopple, both of Hollsopple RD 2, Paul Holsopple, Florida and Samuel Holsopple, Ohio. Member of Thomas Mennonite Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, superintendent and on church council. Formal education from California State University of Pa. and University of Pittsburgh with a doctorate of education; member of Phi Derta Kappa. Served 47 years in education in Conemaugh Township schools as a teacher and administrator. After retirement, he served on the school board, president of Somerset County P.A.S.R. (Pa. Association of School Retirees); member of state P.A.S.R.; Pa. State Education Association, National Retired Teachers Association. Conemaugh Lions Club. Jenner Community Sportsmen. Death breaks marriage union of 63 years. He was an ardent fisherman, hunter, antique car collector, artist and extensive world wide traveler. Family receiving friends from 7-9 p.m., Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday at the George E. Mason Funeral Home Inc., Davidsville and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at 11 a.m. at Thomas Mennonite Church. Revs. Donald Speigle, Homer Schrock, Marvin Kaufman.
