Thomas, generally known as Nellie, the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Thomas, who were of Meyersdale's best citizens some years ago, died in Chicago on Oct. 7th, 1940, and was brought to Meyersdale and taken to Frostburg for burial by W. C. Price, undertaker. Miss Thomas had been in poor health for one year before her death. She was born in Meyersdale and lived the most of her life here, where she had many friends. She was a graduate of the Meyersdale High School and later attended the Women's College in Ashville, N.C. In 1920 she moved to Chicago to reside with her sisters, Grace and Francis, where she remained until her death. Surviving Miss Thomas are a brother, Charles L., of Birmingham, Ala., and two sisters, Grace A. and Francis M. of Chicago, Ill. Other near relatives are an aunt, Mrs. James Phillips, and her daughter, Olive M. Phillips, Howard and Charles A. of Meyersdale, Harry G., of Vandergrift, Pa., and Milton J. of Wilkinsburg, Pa. Miss Thomas was a woman of fine character and attractive personality, possessing an intellect of unusual ability. She had traveled extensively through Europe, Canada, and the United States. She leaves a host of friends to mourn her death. Miss Thomas is the second sister to pass away within a few months. Sarah B., known as Sallie Thomas, lost her life in a tragic automobile accident in Birmingham, Ala., in June. Meyersdale Republican, October 17, 1940
