Thomas, Salix, Pa., merchant, passed away at his late home, Monday, Sept. 27, at 9 p.m. He was born in Boynton, June 17, 1864, a son of Abraham and Sarah Meyers Thomas. He spent his early life in Boynton, where he operated a grocery store, later moving to Salix, Cambria County, about 15 years ago, where he has operated a store until the day of his death. The survivors are his wife, Mary Jane Thomas; four children, a son, Richard Alvin Thomas, Bedford County, Pa.; Mrs. Josephine Wighaman, Central City; Mrs. Margaret Baldwin, Seanor; Mrs. Elizabeth Baker, Salix; also a sister, Mrs. Maggie Fike, Meyersdale; a step-sister, Mrs. Margaret Mankamyer, Meyersdale; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 30, at 1:00 p.m., at his late home in charge of Rev. J. D. Murphy and Rev. M. L. Kaufman, after which the body was taken to Salisbury for interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, in charge of the Auer Funeral Directors of Salix. Meyersdale Republican, September 30, 1943
