Thomas Sr., 86, of Somerset, formerly of Garrett, died Sept. 13, 2002, at Somerset Hospital. Born Nov. 16, 1915 in Garrett, he was the son of William and Matilda (Long) Thomas. Preceded in death by his parents, first wife the former Marie Flamm, son Merle Foust, two grandsons Jay Koontz and William Foust, brothers Alvin, Glenn, Charles, and Paul, sisters Mabel Jackson, Emma Rouser, Hazel Thomas, Eva Thomas and Iva Bridegum. Survived by second wife the former Dorothy (Brant) Foust, children Jean, married to John Novak Jr., Greensburg, Roy W. Jr. married to the former Gail Chevrier, Tampa, Fla., Betty married to Jerry Koontz, Wichita Kan.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Roy was a retired Somerset County coal miner, former mechanic at Saylor Motor Co., Somerset, and the former owner of Carl's Fruit Stand, Thonotossa, Fla. He was a member of the Beachdale Church of the Brethren, United Mine Workers Association and the Florida Fruit Growers Association. Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Beachdale Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Larry Black officiating. Interment Beachdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions be sent to the Beachdale Church of the Brethren, 803 Owl Hollow Rd., Berlin, Pa. 15530.
