Thomas, 76, of Somerset, died June 27, 1997, at the VA Medical Center, Altoona. Born Feb. 14, 1921, in Vanceboro, N.C., son of the late James Grant and Mary (Acree) Thomas. Preceded in death by wife, Audrey A. (Rudy) Thomas, in 1994 and son, William G. Thomas in 1996. Also preceded in death by brothers, George, Clifford, John, Robert, Frank and Preston: sisters, Ellen, Mary Frances and Elizabeth, and three infant siblings. Survived by children, Linda Thomas Atkinson, Somerset; James G. Thomas, married to the former Darlene Hardesty, Berlin, and Joseph G. Thomas, married to Joyce Nakasaki, Redondo Beach. Calif. Also survived by grandchildren, Molly and Paige Atkinson, both of Somerset, and Andrew Romesberg of Berlin. Veteran of World War II, Pacific Theater, and the Korean War; serving in the United States Marine Corps, 1940-1947, and the United States Air Force, 1947-1968, Strategic Air Command. Former employee of Wheeler Brothers, Fetterolf Coal Company and Gilmore Manufacturing. A 32nd Degree Mason. Member of Onion Leek Masonic Lodge, Austin, Texas, Scottish Rite, New Bern, N.C. Will join beloved wife of 48 years in Arlington National Cemetery, where private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
