Thompson, eldest resident of Garrett, died Saturday morning, at the age of 86, at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. John Gearheart, with whom he had made his home the past year. Mr. Thompson, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thompson, was born in Garrett County, Md., February 19, 1862. He had lived in Garrett more than fifty years. Despite his age, he was active until a year ago when it was discovered that he had an incurable disease. He then went to live with the Gearhearts. Palm Sunday, he fell and broke his shoulder blade and since then he failed fast. He was married to Elizabeth Thompson, who preceded him in death twenty years ago. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edward Sheeler of Garrett; two sons, Oliver Thompson, Quecreek, and Ernest Thompson of Somerset; one brother, I. W. Thompson of Dover, Del.; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m., in the Evangelical Church by his pastor, Rev. John Miller. Interment was made in the Highland Cemetery under direction of Johnson & Son, Berlin. Meyersdale Republican, April 15, 1948
