Born Sept. 19, 1918 in Johnstown. Son of John Henry and Elizabeth (Reed) Thompson. Preceded in death by: parents; first wife, the former Evelyn Belle Kimmel who died April 16, 1964; five brothers, Kenneth, Eugene, Richard, Raymond, and Jack Thompson, and three sisters, Lillian Orris, Adeline Young and Beatrice Pierson. Survived by children: William H. Thompson Jr., married to the former Marion Grunwaldt of Oahu, Hawaii; Samuel R. Thompson, married to the former Nora Blackburn of Seaford, Va.; Ms. Linda C. Schmuck of Somerset, and Miss Kimberly Ann Thompson of Cincinnati, Ohio. Nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by former second wife LaRue Piper-Thompson of Portage. Member of Bethany United Methodist Church and VFW Post 155 of Johnstown. World War II veteran of U.S. Army European Theatre where he received the Bronze Star. He was a salesman for Yost Dutch Maid Bakery from 1946-1965 and a custodian for Richland School District, retiring in 1980 with 15 years service. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bethany United Metnodist Church, with the Rev. Barry K. Ritenour officiating. Viewing at the church one hour prior to service. Interment, Bethany Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 204 W.
