All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ JULIA TILP Mrs. Julia Tilp, aged 82 years, 3 months and 25 days, widow of the late George Tilp, died Sunday, December 7, at 10:30 p.m., in St. Andrews Hospital, Murphysboro, Ill. Mrs. Tilp was born at Garrett, August 12, 1848. Her maiden name was Julia Schissler. She and George Tilp were married February 9, 1871. Mr. Tilp conducted a general store in Garrett for many years. He died in 1889. Three sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Tilp - Charles H., Frank and Walter J. Tilp, of whom only Walter J. survives. After her husband's death Mrs. Tilp was a resident of Meyersdale for some years. In 1907 she went to Murphysboro to reside with her sons, Rev. Charles H. and Walter J. Tilp. The former was pastor of the Murphysboro First Lutheran Church from 1906 to 1910. He died in 1926 at Beaver Falls, Pa. Frank Tilp died in 1893. Walter is proprietor of a popular hotel in Murphysboro. Mrs. Tilp is survived by the son, Walter J., and these grandchildren: Nell and Janet Tilp, Murphysboro, Ill., and Charles, Julia, and May Tilp, of Pittsburgh, Pa. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Matilda Benford and Mrs. Pauline Knieriem, both of Meyersdale. Mrs. Tilp was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Murphysboro in which funeral rites were conducted, Monday, December 8th, at 2:30 p.m. Her son accompanied the body to Meyersdale where another short funeral service was held at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Matilda Benford, on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., Rev. J. Luther Frantz, officiating. Interment was made in the Fritz Lutheran Cemetery. Undertaker W. C. Price had charge of the funeral arrangements. Meyersdale Republican, December 11, 1930
