Topper, 70, practicing physician in Hyndman, for many years and more recently associated with Memorial Hospital, died last Friday afternoon after being stricken at the Lions Manor Nursing Home, Maryland, where he had gone to make medical rounds. He was born in Hyndman Jan. 29, 1912, and was a son of the late Walter Topper and Annie (Martin) Topper. A lifetime resident of Hyndman, he took undergraduate studies at West Virginia University, Morgantown. He was a graduate of Temple University Medieal School and interned at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Hyndman United Methodist Church; F&AM Lodge 589, Masons, the Masonic Shrine and the Royal Order of Jesters. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary (Barnes) Topper; two sons, John A. Topper Jr. and Frederick M. Topper, both of Hyndman; one daughter, Miss Mary Ann Topper, New York City; one sister, Mrs. Martine T. Keller, Hyndman; and five grandchildren. Friends were received at the Zeigler Funeral Home in Hyndman, where services were conducted by the Kerry Cathers, pastor of Hyndman United Methodist Chureh, and the Rev. Ralph C. Ciampi, chaplain at Memorial Hospital. Interment will be in the Hyndman Cemetery. Memorials may take the form of donations to the Hyndman United Methodist Chureh, to Memorial Hospital, or to the Hyndman Area Health Center. The Republic, January 13, 1983 [T421]
