  ALVERDA K. TOWER 
  
  Alverda K. Tower, 86, of 736-A Greene Street, Cumberland, Md., died
  Thursday, November 2, 1989, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.,
  where she had been a patient for one day.  She had been in ill health for
  several years.  Born April 12, 1903, in Salisbury, she was the daughter of
  the late Frank and Katie (Tressler) Swartzwelder.  She was preceded in death
  by her husband, Sprigg Tower.  Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Betty L.
  Hughes, with whom she resided: one sister, Ethel Kegley, Frostburg, Md.;
  and one grandson. The body was cremated.  A memorial service was conducted
  at the Silcos - Merritt Funeral Residence, Tuesday at 7 p.m. by the Rev.
  Robert Taylor.
