Born Jan. 26, 1923, in Listie (Sheep Ridge). He is a son of the late Irvin and Viola Grace (Spangler) Trent, Friedens. Also preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, Ralph and Fred Trent; three sisters, Sarah (Trent) Lavan, Ruth Trent and Marie (Trent) Yinkey; two sons, William Trent, Frederica, Del.; and Robert Trent, Friedens; and one grandson, William Trent II, Frederica, Del. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Margaret (Ludy) Trent; son, James E. Trent, Friedens; daughter, Susan (Trent) Fenna, married to Jerry Fenna, Listie; granddaughter, Marlene Fenna, Somerset; grandson, Bradley Fenna, married to Angel (Albright) Fenna, Friedens; great-grandsons, Nolan Ryan Fenna, Jenners, and Jonathan Fenna, Friedens; daughter, Sherri (Trent) Paugh, Shanksville; grandsons, Jason Paugh, married to Heather (Stahl) Paugh, Somerset; Nicholas Paugh and Daniel Paugh, Listie; son, Robbie Trent, married to April (Boyer) Trent, Shanksville; and grandsons, Justin Trent, Chad Trent, Christopher Trent, Darrel Boyer, Joe Foy; great-granddaughter, Haley Elizabeth Trent; daughter, Deborah Jo (Trent) Werner, married to Kevin Werner, Berlin; grandson Travis Nightengale and granddaughter Alyson Werner; and daughter-in-law, Orbanna (Durst) Trent, Frederica, Del.; granddaughter Kelly (Trent) McCallister, married to Benson McCallister; great-grandchildren Brooke and Brandon McCallister, Germany; great-grandson, William Trent III, Franklin, Ohio; granddaughter Nicole (Trent) Starke, married to John Starke II, Delaware. He is also survived by brothers, Donald Trent, Markleton; Clifford Trent, Somerset; and sisters, Betty (Trent) Lavan, Somerset; and Mary Etta (Trent) Williamson, Friedens. John was a member of the Somerset Nazarene Church. He worked for Somerset Limestone for 19 years and went to work at PBS Coal Co. for 12 years, employed as a heavy equipment mechanic who was a master at his trade. He retired in 1984. He later co-owned and operated Trent's Tack Shop. He was a devoted family man who loved children. He and Mary were foster parents and adopted two children. He enjoyed sharing his love of horses with his family throughout 35 years of participation in the Appalachian Wagon Train, Somerset County Fair and the Somerset Saddle Club. He enjoyed driving his horses though many local parades. He enjoyed collecting sleigh bells and was known by many as a collector of key chains. He dearly loved his large family who compassionately aided in his care while he remained pleasant and without complaint throughout the long battle with his health. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, sense of humor, quick wit, intelligence, love of family and numerous talents. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him well. Friends and family and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset, where a service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. His name was misspelled in Wednesday's obituary. Also, Jonathan Fenna is the Son of Jerry and Susan Fenna and the Grandson of John Trent.
