All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ DANIEL TROUTMAN Daniel Troutman, born December 18, 1841, in Southampton Township, this county, died April 19, 1930, at Kennell's Mills in said township, aged 88 years, 4 months and 1 day. He was a re-enlisted soldier of the Civil War, Companies K and C, 2nd Maryland, Potomac Home Brigade Infantry, with a continuous service of 3 years, 8 months and 22 days. Mr. Troutman was a son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Cossel) Troutman; a grandson of Benjamin Troutman, whose father, Peter Troutman, was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War. His great uncle, William Troutman, served in the War of 1812 from Southampton Township. Peter Troutman was an early settler in that section of Somerset County, formerly Londonderry Township, Bedford County, and his progeny is widely scattered at this date. Daniel Troutman was twice married, first to Mary Kneppenberger, second to Cordilla Clitz, both of whom are deceased. Children from the first marriage: Sadie, deceased; John E., intermarried with Mary Smith, resides in Southampton Township; Charles, single, living near Keyser, W.Va.; Hannah, intermarried with Norman Lepley, resides in Southampton Township; Annie, wife of Samuel Evans, living at Hyndman, Bedford County; Jennie, single, resides in Southampton Township; Ella, James and Elmer, both deceased. Children from the second marriage: Mary, wife of Noah Witt, resides in Wellersburg, George, single, a World War veteran, resides in Southampton Township; Harry, never married, World War soldier, who died in France; Laura, wife of Frank Schrock, resides at Mount Savage, Md., and Levada, wife of Ralph Sturtz, Wellersburg. Of his brothers and sisters but one survives, Emma Troutman, living in Fairhope Township. Daniel Troutman in his lifetime was both a laborer and farmer by occupation, and for a period lived in Fairhope Township. He was a member of the Reformed Church, and Rev. H. Landis preached his funeral sermon in the Comp's church house in Southampton Township. His remains rest in Comp's Cemetery, an ancient burial ground adjoining the church. Here his great-grandfather, Peter Troutman, is interred also. Meyersdale Republican, June 12, 1930
