UMBEL Augustine Melvin Umbel, 68, of Murrell's Inlet, S.C., and formerly of Friendsville, Md., died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1987, at his residence. Born March 4, 1919 at Confluence, he was the son of the late James Harvey and Zoloma (Friend) Umbel. He was a retired stone mason and brick layer. Surviving are his widow, Lucille (Rider) Umbel; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Sessa, Friendsville, Md.; and Mrs. Donna Kirk, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Jean (Billie) James, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two step-sons, David Rider, Elizabethtown, Tenn.; and James E. Rider, Jeffersonville, Ind.; two brothers, Walter Umbel, Evans City; and Joseph Umbel, Friendsville, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Annetta Grove and Mrs. Myrtle Sleasman, both of Friendsville, Md.; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, Md. where services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. H.B. Rittenhouse. Interment, Addison Cemetery.
