Born Jan. 29, 1912, in Shade Township, Somerset County, he was a son of the late John B. and Lydia (Tressler) Umberger; also preceded in death by two sisters. Survived by wife, the former Mary Briggs Carmean; and these step-children: Michael Carmean, Gallaway, Ohio; Dick Carmean, High Ridge, Mo.; Thomas Carmean, Somerset; Mrs. Joseph (Joy) Palmer, Clearfield, Texas; nine step-grandchildren. Brother of Mrs. William (Mary) Irvine, Petersburg, Va.; Mrs. Lloyd (Bertha) Williams and Mrs. Harry (Alice) Landis, both of Somerset; Mrs. Nellie Barnhart and Bert Umberger, Hummelstown. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Dormont Lodge No. 684 F and AM, Pittsburgh Consistory, and the American Legion. A veteran of WW II, he was a retired driver for Greyhound. Friends are being received at the Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home, where services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. H. James Meyers officiating.
