  CARMEAN-UMBERGER
  
  Mary Helen Carmean-Umberger, 76, of Nicole Lane, Somerset, died Nov. 4, 1997,
  at her residence.  Born Sept. 30, 1921, in Lima, Allen County, Ohio, the
  daughter of William M. and Ethel P. (Gause) Briggs.  Preceded in death by
  parents and husband, John Calvin Umberger, who died Nov. 2, 1981, and two
  brothers: Walter and William Briggs.  Survived by these children: Michael L.
  Carmean, Vincennes, Ind.; Richard Carmean, House Springs, Mo.; Thomas J.
  Carmean, Friedens.  Ten grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 6
  great-grandchildren.  Also a brother: Jack Briggs of Lakeview, Ohio.  Retired
  in 1987 as a waitress for the Somerset American Legion.  Friends will be
  received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral
  Home, Somerset, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday by the Rev.
  Jacquelyn M. DePhillips.  Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
