  VANDERGRIFT
  
  John H. Vandergrift, 54, of 130 Water St., Hooversville, died April 7,
  1987, at Veterans Hospital, Altoona.  Born Aug. 27, 1932, in New Hope, son
  of Clarence and Mildred (Haddix) Vandergrift.  Preceded in death by father,
  brother James and infant brother.  Survived by his mother, of Somerset;
  wife, the former Dorothy Bowser, whom he married July 10, 1954; and these
  children: John Jr., married to former Karen King, Stoystown; Dan, married
  to former Irma Gawin, Norwich, Conn.; and Mrs. Thomas (Valerie) Laney,
  Cairnbrook RD 1; grandchildren: Rebecca, Thomas Jr. and Mary Grace Laney;
  Danny Jr., Daryl, Randy, Robin and Shena Marie Vandergrift.  Brother of
  Mrs. John (Mary) Casuccio, Fairmont, W.Va.; Mrs. Louis (Nell) Kearns,
  Wilkinsburg; Mabel, Berlin; Mrs. Lewis (Betty) Moldovan, Hooversville;
  Robert Dave, Friedens; Mrs. Clyde (Shirley) Kantner, La Punta, Calif.; and
  Sam, Alton Lema, Calif.  He was retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp.  Korean
  War Army veteran; life member of Hooversville VFW #7565; American Legion
  Post #449, Central City; and Jenner Rod and Gun Club.  Family will receive
  friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home,
  Hooversville, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, the Rev.
  Harry W. Bassett officiating.  Interment, P.O.S. of A. Cemetery,
  Hooversville.
