Van Gilder, 64, Berlin RD 4, died Sept. 26, 1996, at home. Born March 24, 1932, in Grantsville, Md. Son of the late Blaine Van Gilder and Victoria Van Gilder-Garlitz. Survived by his wife, the former Catherine L. Foust; these children: Mrs. Edward (Karen) Adamoski, Greensburg; Mrs. Paul (Vicki) Menhorn, Berlin RD 4; Donald B. Van Gilder, Berlin RD 4 and fiance Dee Fochtman; David Van Gilder, married to the former Connie Shaffer, Berlin RD 4; grandchildren: Justin and Jason Van Gilder; Joseph, Jessica and Jenna Adamoski. Brother of Mrs. Olive Brode, Berlin RD 4, and Mrs. John (Billie) Platt, Stow, Ohio. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Was a sergeant in U.S. Marine Corps, serving for 3 years in Korea. Attended Trinity Lutheran Church, Somerset. 1950 graduate of Berlin High School. Lifetime member of the Marine Corps League and Berlin American Legion. Agway Committee member for 9 years. Charter member of Berlin Young Farmers and served as past president. Farm partner with sons David and Donald on the DoVan Farms and a member of Pa. Farm Bureau. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Robert L. Hoover Jr. officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Contributions may be given Trinity Lutheran Church, 918 Tayman Ave., Somerset, Pa. 15501 or the Somerset "In Touch" Hospice, 651 South Center Ave., Somerset, Pa. 15501.
