Born March 26, 1915, a daughter of the late W. H. and Sarah Brownfield Boyer. She was retired from Standard Steel of Latrobe. She was a graduate from Fairchance High School in 1932 and Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church of Latrobe, Uniontown Nurses Alumni Association, a 50-year member of O.E.S., former member of Laurette Chapter, Uniontown and a current member of Latrobe Chapter O.E.S. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul B. and John A. Boyer; two sisters, Dorothy B. Bortner and Katherine E. Boyer. She is survived by her husband James Baird VanKirk Sr. of Latrobe; and her children, Linda K. Smith and the former Alfred R. Smith; Sallie A. Plummer and her husband Clarence J. Plummer of Latrobe; James Baird VanKirk Jr. and wife Emma of Ligonier; David Lee VanKirk and wife, Patricia cif Largo, Fla.; grandchildren, Nancy E. Wood and husband Paul G., Virginia L. Smith, Thomas P. Smith, Christopher J. Plummer and wife Jennifer, Scott A. Plummer and wife Melissa; three great-grandchildren, Vincent VanKirk Wood, Laurel Elizabeth Wood and Hannah McKenzie Plummer: sisters Martha B. Davis of Florence, N.C. and Lillian D. Cain of Somerset; several nieces and nephews. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday, at Frederick Funeral Home Ligonier. Service Tuesday at United Presbyterian Church, at a time to be announced. Rev Donald W. Graff officiating. Interment in Unity Cemetery Unity Township.
