(Babe) Vannear, 80, of Ulh Street, Somerset, died Sept. 28, 1979, in Somerset Community Hospital. Born June 22, 1899, in Jenner Township, Somerset County, son of the late Fred T. and Ray (Picking) Vannear. Preceded in death by parents, and brother Charles S., who died in World War I in Germany in 1919. Survived by widow, Mary Adams; one daughter, Ray Ellen, wife of Lewis Ankney, Central City RD 1; and four grandchildren, Eric, Renee, Andy and Tyler Ankney. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Somerset. Retired B&O Railroad engineer after 47 years service. Veteran of WW I, having served with Co. C, 110th Infantry. Member of VFW Post Somerset, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and a life-long resident of Somerset County. Friends will be received after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, where service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m., Pastor H. James Meyers officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Daily American, September 28, 1979 [V0042]
