VAN NEST Word was received in Meyersdale, last week, of the sudden death of G. B. Van Nest of Washington, D.C., uncle of Mrs. S. A. Kendall. Mr. Van Nest was well known in Meyersdale having visited frequently at the home of Hon. and Mrs. S. A. Kendall for many years. He was sick for the last two years, but was able to be up and around and take care of his business the last few months. He had been around as usual, Monday, and had gone to his office on 17th and G. Streets, where he was proprietor of the District Battery Company. He later went to Georgetown to take care of some business and stepped out of his car to speak to a man and collapsed. He was taken to a Georgetown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, having been stricken with a sudden heart attack. He was 72 years old. Mr. Van Nest was a native of Johnstown, N.Y. He spent his early manhood in Grundy County, Iowa, and later resided in Chicago until going to Washington, where he lived many years. In 1893 he married Mrs. Alice Meeker Day, who survives, together with one daughter, Freda, at home. Mrs. W. E. Kretching of Washington, and Alvin N. Day, of Los Angeles, daughter and son of Mrs. Van Nest by a former marriage, also survive. Mr. Van Nest's son, Ray, preceded him in death a year and one-half ago. Mr. Van Nest made many friends in Meyersdale during his frequent visits here at the Kendall home. He was a man of strict integrity and beloved by all who knew him intimately.
