Varner, 94, of Somerset, died Jan. 16, 1973, in the Siemon Nursing Home. Born Dec. 16, 1878, in Indiana County, a daughter of the late Alfred and Harriet (Rager) Carney. Preceded in death by her husband, Samuel S. Varner. Survived by these children: Mrs. Bertha V. Casey of Greensburg and Mrs. Alice V. Picking of Somerset; two grandchildren, Mrs. James (Mae Jean) Rosser of Coatsville and Samuel T. Casey of Pittsburgh; four great-grandchildren. A sister of: Mrs. Grant (Ida) Davis of Elkins, W.Va., and Emerson Carney of Prescott, Ariz. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Somerset. She was a former Noble Grande of the Rebekah Lodge. Member of the Somerset Garden Club. Friends received after 2 p.m. Thursday in the Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home, where services will be conducted Friday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Rummel. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Daily American, 18 January 1973 [V0059]
