Volk, 48, veteran of World War I and former Boswell postmaster, died Wednesday evening, August 4, at the home of his son, Karl R. Volk, Jr., Staten Island, New York. He had been in failing health for six months. He was admitted to the U.S. Naval Hospital in Philadelphia three months ago and only recently was taken from that institution to the home of his son. Prior to his illness, Mr. Volk had been employed by the York Safe and Lock Company in York. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary R. Hoffman, daughter of the late L. G. Hoffman, former Boswell mortician, and three sons - Karl R. Jr., a member of the Coast Guard, stationed at New London, Conn.; Richard, with the U.S. Army at Camp Lee, and David, New York City. He was a brother of Herbert J. Volk and Gertrude Volk, both of Boswell; Mrs. Irma Walker, Jenners, and Mrs. John McSweeney, Detroit, Mich. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Boswell Lutheran Church. Rev. E. L. Houser, of Bedford, a former pastor at Boswell officiated. Interment in the Jenner Crossroads Cemetery.
