Volpe, 93, died July 22, 2005 at her residence. Born May 15, 1912, in Acosta, the daughter of Samuel and Nora Lenore (Witt) Bingman. Her sisters Elizabeth Yahnert and Bernice Hevner, and brothers Robert and Donald Bingman, precede her in death. Cora is survived by her husband of 61 years, John of Tigard. Cora graduated from Somerset High School. After the death of her father, Cora and her mother moved to Cleveland where Cora met Navy man John S. Volpe. They were married the next spring on April 30, 1944, in San Diego, Calif. John shipped to the Pacific and Cora returned to Cleveland until after the war, when they made their home in Portland. The couple moved in 1972 to Bogota, Columbia, for six years, then lived in the Los Angeles area until returning to the Portland area in 1993. Cora was active in her church throughout her life. She was also an accomplished seamstress and liked working in her yard. Memorial services will be held Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church at 12th and Alder in Portland, Ore. Dr. Tom Nolen officiating. A private graveside service was held Monday at River View Cemetery in Portland.
