(Samonsky) Helen L. (Samonsky) Waddell, 89, formerly of Jenner Township, died April 9, 2008, at The Patriot. Born Feb. 3, 1919, in Monessen, daughter of Daniel and Helen Belle (DeaVer) Samonsky. Preceded in death by parents; and brother, Willis K. Samonsky. Survived by loving husband of 69 years, John S.; daughters, Janet, married to Dennis Hurley, New Jersey; and Linda, married to Eugene Begandy, Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Denise, Erin and Sean; three great- grandchildren; and brother, Daniel. A 1936 graduate of West Newton High School. Known as "Grandma Cookie" and also loved to knit and crochet. Resident of Jenner Township since 1980 before moving to The Patriot five years ago. Had been very active with the Girl Scouts of America and formerly belonged to the United Presbyterian Church, West Newton. Viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where a service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Arthur T. Moffat Jr. officiating. Interment West Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Patriot, 459 W. Patriot St., or "In Touch" Hospice, 223 S. Pleasant Ave., Suite 103, both in Somerset, would be appreciated.
