Wagner, 78, of Box 111, Shirleysburg RR 1, Pa., died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 1997, in the Centre Community Hospital, State College. Born May 25, 1919, at Cairnbrook, Somerset County, he was the only child of the late J. Clyde and I. Lillian (Heinemeyer) Wagner. Married to the former Betty Jane Pitzer on June 12, 1938, in Somerset. Surviving are his wife, at their home, and six children: Betty Marlene Wagner and Mary E. Wagner, both of Somerset; Mrs. Terry (Carole A.) Fritz, North Huntingdon, Pa., and Dennis E. Wagner, Deanna Lee Wagner, and Mrs. David (Ruth E.) McMath, all of RD l Shirleysburg. Also surviving are three grandchildren and a great-grandson. Mr. Wagner, a 1937 graduate of Somerset Area High School, was a veteran of World War II, where he held the rank of first lieutenant during his service as a pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He developed and operated, with his father, Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg RR 1, and Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon RD 1, which he was currently operating with his son Dennis. Prior to working as a memorial park operator, Mr. Wagner had 20 years of service as an employee of Standard Oil (Esso). He was manager of an Esso service station on the Penna. Turnpike during its early years. Private funeral services were held Friday, June 27, under the direction of the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. William Wollett officiating. Interment was made in the Haven Rest Memorial Park, RR 1, Shirleysburg. There was no viewing or visitation. Daily American, July 5, 1997 [W0038]
