Walker, aged 31, died at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, May 19, at the Veterans Hospital, Aspinwall, where he had been admitted May 7. Death came as the result of complications arising from a sledding accident in which he was injured when he was about 13 years of age. He also underwent a surgical operation for same in Hazel McGilvery Hospital here in December 1947, and had been ailing since that time. A veteran of World War II, he served as a T/5 with the Combat Engineers of the 9th Army, serving in Germany and France for some time. Prior to his recent illness, he was employed at the Frantz Distillery, near Berlin. He was born Aug. 26, 1916, a son of Mrs. Emma (Wellen) Walker, and the late George Walker, who was killed in a coal mine a number of years ago. He is survived by his wife, Isabelle (Hipp) Walker; his mother, two brothers, Harry S. and William, both at home; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Wright, Salisbury; and his maternal grandfather, Eugene Wellen, of Homer City. Funeral services will be held at 1:45 p.m., Saturday, at the home of his mother in Vim, Meyersdale, R.D. 3. Interment will be made in Union Cemetery, under the direction of H. R. Konhaus. A military service will be conducted by members of John C. Tressler Post 3504, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Charles E. Kelly Post 112, American Legion. Meyersdale Republican, May 20, 1948
