Walker, 90, of Meyersdale, died April 23, 2002 at Somerset Hospital. Born Aug. 20, 1911 in Summit Twp., Meyersdale, a son of the late Edward W. and Edith (Berkley) Walker. Also preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna W. Bird; a daughter, Laura Bird; five brothers: Gillian, Howard, Orien, Bert, and Harold E. Walker; and two sisters Sally Dennison, and Gladys Miller. Survived by a daughter, Mary Ann, wife of David R. Henderson, Meyersdale; and a brother, Robert D. Walker, married to the former Helen Saler, Somerset. Earl was a devoted father and a loving husband. A member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and served on several commissions. A retired dairy farmer and school teacher with 42 years of service teaching at Summit Mills School, S.J. Miller School, and Meyersdale Area Schools. A member of Meyersdale No. 554 Free and Accepted Masons. Former member of the Harrisburg Consistory, and the Jaffa Temple Shrine of Altoona. Also former member and past president of the Meyersdale Rotary Club, and was Citizen of the Year in 1975. A graduate of Meyersdale High School, and Juniata College. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Price Funeral Home Meyersdale. Service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Mike Swick officiating. Interment Union Cemetery Meyersdale. Memorials may be made to the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund. Daily American, April 24, 2002 [W0169]
