Mrs. Walker, who was well known and greatly loved by those of the older citizens of Meyersdale, was a daughter of the late Dr. William H. and Maggie (Large) Meyers, and a granddaughter of the late Peter and Lydia (Miller) Meyers, for whom the town of Meyersdale was named, was born in the Meyers residence, 118 Meyers Avenue, where her father practiced his profession for more than half a century. She attended the local public schools and other institutions of learning and excelled in music and art. Being endowed with an unusually fine personality, and unselfishly helpful and willing to favor when the opportunity presented itself, she succeeded in building up a friendship among those with whom she came in contact that has lasted through the years. Though absent from Meyersdale for many years, there are still many here who revere her memory and who are the better for having known her. She was united in marriage with Samuel Grant Walker, a popular Somerset young man and a member of one of its oldest and most highly esteemed families, with whom she became acquainted during the time he was employed in the office of the Meyersdale "Register" (newspaper) during the early 90's. Later at a beautiful wedding in the little Protestant Episcopal Church on Meyers Avenue they were united in the holy bonds of wedlock in the presence of a large concourse of friends from Meyersdale and roundabout. Since then they have lived in various places in several states of the east and south, where Mr. Walker was engaged successfully in various pursuits, principally that of contracting. For some time their residence was in Atlanta, Ga., where death came to a devoted wife and mother, a true Christian and a helpful friend and neighbor. Surviving are her husband and daughter, Miss Margaret Walker, who is at present employed in secretarial work in Baltimore, Md., and a brother, John S. Meyers, of Charleston, W.Va. The body arrived here on train No. 21 over the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad on Tuesday afternoon and was removed to the Reich home on Broadway where it was viewed by many of her friends until 10 o'clock Wednesday morning when funeral services were conducted by the Arch-Deacon of the Protestant Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, assisted by Rev. Dr. R. M. Dunkleberger, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church of Meyersdale. It was a most beautiful service, and the floral offerings were gorgeous. Interment was made in the plat in Union Cemetery where are buried several generations of the Meyers family, under the direction of R. Reich & Son, Meyersdale morticians.
