Walker, 86, died at his home on W. Church St., Somerset, at 12:10 o'clock, on Sunday, March 17th. He was born in Summit Twp., Oct. 20, 1859, a son of Herman and Malinda (Countryman) Walker. His first wife, Mrs. Malinda (Hay) Walker preceded him in death in 1910. During their married life they lived on the Walker farm near Fritz Church, now owned by their son-in-law Howard Hay. Mr. and Mrs. Walker were very active in church work in the Fritz Lutheran Church. To this union were born three children: Anna, Mrs. Charles Fritz, Garrett; Ora, Mrs. Howard Hay, Garrett R.D., and Merle Walker, Somerset. Also surviving are Mr. Walker's second wife, Mrs. Leora (Seibert) Saylor Walker, and two step-children, Ray Saylor of Fairmont, W.Va., and Mrs. George Hartzell of Somerset, and a number of grandchildren. Mr. Walker, a congenital Democrat in politics, served very creditably as minority party member of the board of County commissioners for four years, and as jury commissioner for two four-year terms, and was an outstanding citizen of Somerset County and always a fine Christian gentleman. After his retirement from farming he made his home in Somerset. It is no exaggeration to say Milliard W. Walker was of the finest type of native-born Somerset Countians, descended from noble, hardy, godfearing pioneer settlers who carved farms out of Penn's woodland west of the Allegheny Mountains, while most of the area now embraced in Somerset County was still a subdivision of Bedford County, known as Brothersvalley Township. Funeral services were held in the Hauger Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. I. Hess Wagner, pastor of Old Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment was made in Fritz Lutheran Cemetery, near Meyersdale. Meyersdale Republican, March 21, 1946
