She was born in Pittsburgh on April 9, 1928, the daughter of Robert Andrew Deeter and Hilda Catherine (Broeseker) Deeter. She also lived in Altoona, Berlin and Somerset. In her later years she was a longtime resident of Southern California. Shirley was the devoted wife of Ronald Hay Walker for 58 years until she lost the love of her life to Alzheimer's disease in January of 2006. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Walker; her daughters, Connie Assadi and Rhonda Marshall; sons-in-law, Mike Assadi and Matt Marshall; grandchildren, Abraham Assadi, Zoe Marshall, Paige Assadi, Emma Marshall, Amanda Assadi-Rullow and her husband, Clifford Rullow. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Dainty; brother, Ronald Deeter; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Jack Dickey; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was an L.V.N. for many years and was also president of the Torrance, Calif., Woman's Club from 1998 to 2000. Within her resided an extraordinarily generous, compassionate, loving heart and her passing, while painful to so many who knew and loved her, can never erase the beautiful spirit of love she leaves behind. A memorial service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held at the Torrance Woman's Club at 11 a.m. on Dec. 22. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or to the Torrance Woman's Club, to help them continue their benevolent work, at 1422 Engracia Avenue, Torrance, CA 90501.
