Walter Jr., 72, of Johnstown, died Sept. 4, 1975, in Lee Hospital. Born Jan. 13, 1903, in Washington, D.C., he was a son of Henry Madison and Mary (Christie) Walter Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Francis. Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Louise Hady; two sons, Henry F., of Frederick, Md.; and George C., Fullerton, Calif.; also five grandchildren and a brother, Mercer, of Alexandria, Va. He was a Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army, retired, with service in Europe during World War II, and was a retired associate professor of chemistry at University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Johnstown, was Adult Sunday School teacher and past president of the congregation. A graduate of Central High School Washington, D.C., he received his bachelor and master of science degrees from the University of Maryland, and also did graduate work at New York University. Mr. Walter was a 50-year member of American Chemical Society and a member of Alpha Chi Sigma professional fraternity. He was a life member of Somerset County Genealogical and Historical Society and of Cambria County Historical Society, and belonged to the Cambria Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. Funeral service was held Monday morning in St. John's United Church of Christ, Johnstown, with Rev. Mark D. Dewald officiating. Interment in Union Cemetery, Meyersdale.
