Walters, 89, of Quecreek, formerly of Jenners, died Dec. 3, 1996, at Somerset Hospital. Born Dec. 1, 1907, in Mount Savage, Md. Son of Samuel and Mary (Orndoff) Walters. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Maybelle E., Dec. 21, 1986; son, Jerry S. "Sherm," June 21, 1994; granddaughter, Kimberly Hunter; brothers: Eugene A., Samuel W., Robert E., and Harold D. "Boo," and sister, Katherine Shroyer. Survived by daughters: Marian Jean, wife of Gary Hunter, of Patton, and Mary Jane Emerick, Somerset; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law, Linda (Perian) Walters, Jennerstown. Brother of George R., Berlin, and Charlotte Bowlby, Rockwood. Member of Jenner Rod and Gun Club, UMWA, and Somerset County Oldtimers Baseball Association. Avid baseball fan and formerly played for the Middle Atlantic Professional Baseball League. Retired coal miner and PennDOT employee. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Rev. C.J. Ickes officiating.
