She was born Nov. 2, 1897 in Brothersvalley Twp., the daughter of the late J. Madison and Ade E. (Coleman) Shober. Preceded in death by her husband James A. Ward, two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by a son Nathan, Mechanicsburg, and two grandchildren. She was a sister of Mrs. Iva Jeffery, Vineland, N.J.; Mrs. Etta Kendell, Garrett; Mrs. Walter (Etha) Landefeld, Garrett; Galen, Garrett; Mrs. Marie Caler, Akron, Ohio; Drummond, Vineland, N.J.; and Mrs. Mildred Mankamyer, Vineland, N.J. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin; president of the J. M. Shober Farms Inc.; one of the founders and first president of the Berlin-Brothersvalley Community Association. A graduate of California State College, she taught in the West Newton and Pittsburgh area and in Berlin schools. She was the first teacher of the Berlin Christian Kindergarten, and a member of the Valley Grange for 65 years. Friends will be received at the Johnson and Son Funeral Home, Berlin, after 7 p.m. today (Monday) where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Kenneth S. Swanson officiating.
