Waters, 72, son of Samuel and Hannah Waters, born in Eastern Shore, Maryland, March 20, 1870, departed this life Saturday, Dec. 12, 1942, at 8:10 a.m. In the year of 1914 he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Eva Peck. He was converted in early life and lived a consistant Christian life through all the years. He was called to ministry in 1926 and was ordained in the year 1926 in the A.M.E. Zion Church. His first charge was at Lycenrine, Pa., other charges were Larson, Indiana, Blairsville, Mt. Pleasant before coming to Meyersdale where he served faithfully until he was stricken with paralysis in Sept. 4, 1939. He was a patient sufferer, never complaining, and was always resigned to the will of his Heavenly Father. He was thrifty in every way that he might care for his family. He was very much interested in his two adopted children, Helen Marie, and Eugene Harold. He was truly a father indeed, his one desire was to live to see them educated and able to take care of themselves and help their Aunt Alice who is to them a mother indeed. He was a splendid gospel preacher, a devoted husband and loving father. He leaves to mourn his loss a loving wife, one brother, Rev. Martin Waters, of New Jersey, one sister, Mrs. Alverta Johnson of Philadelphia, two children, Helen and Eugene Harold, two sisters-in-law, Miss Lagretta Peck and Mrs. Bertha Irby, both of Johnstown, Pa., five nieces and one nephew, and a host of relatives and friends. The funeral was conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the A.M.E. Zion Church on Large Street by the district superintendent, who spoke very highly of the fine Christian work the deceased has done for the church throughout his long ministry. There were many beautiful floral tributes. Funeral arrangement and interment in Union Cemetery were in charge of W. C. Price and Son. Meyersdale Republican, December 17, 1942
