Dr. Dr. Samuel G. Watterson, 70, Holiday, Fla., died March 9, 2007 at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital, Tarpon Springs, Fla. Born July 25, 1936 in Philadelphia, son of Samuel J. and Lillie (Bell) Watterson. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Janet Houser. Survived by wife, Margaret (Wheeler), Holiday, Fla. and Jennerstown; children, Kimberley, wife of Charles Farabaugh, Wesley Chapel, Fla.; Stephen Paul and wife, Rhonda, Friedens; Army National Guard Major Brian Scott, Warminster; Amy Jo, Holiday, Fla.; and Joseph Labik and wife, Carolyn, Somerset. Dr. Watterson is also survived by four grandchildren, Nikki Watterson, Sam Watterson, Chelsea Farabaugh, and Salliann Labik; and great-grandchild, Masen Merkel. A graduate of Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Dr. Watterson performed his internship and residency at Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia. Following this, he served active duty in the U.S. Navy based in Norfolk, Va. and remained a general medical officer in the ready reserved for more than 20 years. He had attained the rank of captain prior to his retirement in December 1991. Dr. Watterson served the Somerset and Johnstown communities as a family physician for more than 30 years, including a private practice from 1982-89 along Route 985 in Somerset County. Dr. Watterson was a member of the American Cancer Society and served on the board of directors and as president for both the Somerset County unit and the Pennsylvania division. He also served as a Pennsylvania Division National delegate. Dr. Watterson was a member of the Somerset Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he served as a deacon and as a member of the board of the Somerset Christian School. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Somerset Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Somerset. The Rev. James Vanderfort officiating. Private interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Somerset County Unit, in memory of Samuel G. Watterson, M.D. Daily American, March 25, 2007
