Weimer Widely Lamented The death of Park W. Weimer, in the Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, on Friday, Dec. 12, grieved the hearts of his many friends here, who had welcomed him back to Meyersdale a few short months ago, after an absence of about 22 years, during which he had attained marked success in the banking business. He returned to his former home town to accept an executive position in the Second National Bank, and expected to assume an active part in community civic and social affairs. Their three daughters having married and moved away from their parental home, Mr. and Mrs. Weimer sold their home in Pittsburgh, and moved into the former residence of the late Dr. W. H. Meyers, on Meyers Avenue, looking forward to spending the coming years among old friends and new, in the quiet atmosphere of Mr. Weimer's former home town. When Mr. Weimer was welcomed to the staff of the Second National Bank by his former employer, J. H. Bowman, president of the bank and his son, R. H. Bowman, cashier, last August 3, he appeared to be in robust health, at the prime age of 53. Therefore, it was a great shock to his business associates, patrons of the bank, friends and members of his family when on October 8, he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, which impaired his eyesight and otherwise depleted his physical condition. For a while he appeared to be recovering, and hope was given by attending physicians here and in Pittsburgh, for his ultimate recovery. Shortly before Thanksgiving Day he was taken to the Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, for observation and treatment. There, last week, he became suddenly seriously ill again and passed away shortly after midnight, Friday night. He was the son of Norman W. and Jeanette (Gahring) Weimer, both deceased, and was born in Somerset County, Dec. 28, 1893. During his early childhood his parents moved to Meyersdale, where he attended grade school and graduated from high school. He started his banking career as a clerk in the Second National Bank in 1914, at the age of 21, and was employed there until 1926, when he resigned to accept the position of cashier in the Boswell Bank. After its merger and suspension he accepted a position with a special deputy in banking for a short interval, until he was commissioned with the United States Treasury Department, office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Washington, D.C. He acted in that capacity until 1943, when he was appointed as a bank examiner, but he resigned that position to accept a duration position with the Pittsburgh branch of the Federal Reserve Bank. His duties with the Federal Reserve Bank were in the fiscal division, where he was supervisor of the inscription department, and later with the redemption department, pertaining to War and Savings bonds. His experience with the U.S. Treasury Dept. and with the Federal Reserve Bank in administrative work and extensive public relations formed an invaluable background which would have made it possible for him to perform valuable service to the local bank and community. He was a member of the Meyersdale Blue Lodge F. & A. M.; New Castle Consistory; Jaffa Shrine, Altoona; Meyersdale Rotary Club, and the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Pittsburgh. His wife is the former Nell Braucher, whose parents live in Somerset. He is also survived by three daughters - Mrs. Mary W. Rudolf and Mrs. Beatrice W. Miller of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Betty W. Hilgendorf of Clarksburg, W.Va. Also surviving are five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Walter S. Hoffman Funeral Home, Somerset, Rev. Dr. I. Hess Wagner officiating. Burial was made in the Somerset County Memorial Park where Masonic rites were performed at the grave, in charge of the Meyersdale Lodge. Pallbearers were W. D. Baker, John I. Meyers, W. H. Baldwin, S. S. Susser, R. H. Bowman and John I. Lint. Meyersdale Republican, December 18, 1947
